Bind : BindBind is used to map a connection between a directory member and an entry in the directory. You are first asked to verify your identity via the login screen, which requires a valid uniqname and UMICH Kerberos password. After authentication is verified, you will be "bound" to your entry in the directory. You can then access and modify your personal entry and e-mail groups, as well as view additional information that is not accessible when you are not bound.Bind is not the same as login. Bind is a command specific to the directory, whereas login is a University-wide method of authenticating for various services. Once you authenticate using the login server, you will continue to have an authenticated session -- even if you change to a different web site or unbind from the directory.
